The saying is attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt. The ring reminds the bearer that the greatest resource in the Universe is time and the only time that exists is the present. Most people are too busy thinking about what was in the past and fear what will be in the future instead of experiencing the only reality that truly exists, what is now, the present.

Being in the present moment allows us to feel and mental changes in the present effect our understanding of the past and the future. In other words the past is the sum of events which we no longer influenced in the present, the future is the sum of the things that can be influenced now but do not yet exist, and the present is the existence of events for the consciousness at every moment.

The wise teacher Oogway the Turtle uses this line in the animated movie Kung Fu Panda, a film about the struggle between a lazy Panda bear who dreams of being a Kung Fu fighter and a Tigress to obtain the Dragon Scroll that contains the knowledge of Infinite Strength.
The knowledge revealed in the scroll can serve as a lesson for us all…
