"Who verily knows and who can here declare it,
whence it was born and whence comes this creation?
The Gods are later than this world's production.
Who knows then whence it first came into being?
He, the first origin of this creation,
whether he formed it all or did not form it,
Whose eye controls this world in highest heaven,
he verily knows it, or perhaps he knows not."
The Rigveda 1700-1100 BC
This model was suggested by Suzy Baiz as part of the Symbolic Jewelry Design contest that took place at the beginning of June.
The structure in this pendant is called a Tesseract or A hypercube. It is the four-dimensional analog of the cube; the tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. Just as the surface of the cube consists of 6 square faces, the hypersurface of the tesseract consists of 8 cubical cells.
If a point represents the zero dimension, a line represents the second dimension and a cube represents the third dimension then the Hypercube/Tesseract represents the 4th dimension.
The tesseract itself is just the “shadow” of a 4d cube because we humans are “trapped” in the 3rd dimension. We cannot see a 4D object, just experience and observe it’s projection/shadow.
The tesseract is being used extensively by astronomers and physicists as a model by which one can understand the multidimensional universe that can be “seen” through astronomical or physical cosmic phenomenon such as the expansion of the cosmos which can be observed through what is known as the Hubble Law named after famous astronomer Edwin Hubble.
Hubble discovered that galaxies are moving away from each other and proved both the Big Bang theory and the expansion of the universe.
The tesseract is a beautiful symbol of the interesting concept that the universe is both finite and at the same time unbounded. It is also a powerful reminder of our limited comprehension and ability to absorb and fully understand the beauty, mystery, wonder and complexity of the cosmos.
I have decided to create the Hypercube model in order to remind those of us who are not afraid to explore the mystery known as life or existence and to set a path to wonders of the cosmos because for many of us the beauty and mystery of the universe are nothing but a supernova for the blind.
Here’s a video of the late and brilliant Dr. Carl Sagan in his famous t.v. series “Cosmos”
