The Ripple Effect Pendant
In 1977, the famous sci-fi author Philip K. Dick gave a speech in Metz, France.
The crowd's reaction is priceless. Some scoff, some cringe.
Because he claimed that, due to an event in 1974, he discovered this reality was fake. He called it the black iron prison, and, to the true reality, he called it "the Palm Tree Garden." He linked this fake reality to an event that occurred in 70 AD, after the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.
This event triggered his consciousness and brought back memories- memories of a Roman rebel.
He claimed that many of us are triggered to open our eyes. We encounter symbols, signs, concepts, pieces of art, or a song on the radio that serve as reminders to awaken.
For the past 25 years, I've had unexplained synchronicities that strangely correspond with Philip K Dick's concept.
Perhaps many of us are rebels, and the symbols are our means of communication.
Why I Created It
The Ripple Effect emerged from years of exploring a recurring question:
What is reality?
Not merely as a philosophical puzzle, but as a lived experience.
Over the years, I found myself repeatedly drawn toward ideas that appeared across different traditions, cultures, and time periods: the Gnostic notion that reality conceals a deeper truth, the Platonic concept of anamnesis or "un-forgetting," the Stoic Logos, ancient Jewish mystical concepts, and the strange visionary world of Philip K. Dick.
Again and again, similar themes emerged. Symbols repeated. Ideas echoed. Questions returned. Whether these patterns were meaningful or merely coincidences became less important than the fact that they kept appearing.
The Ripple Effect was created as a meditation on those moments—the moments that interrupt ordinary perception and invite us to see the world differently.
Symbolism & Meaning
At the center of the pendant lies an interference pattern—two waves meeting, two realities overlapping, two perspectives colliding and creating Something entirely new.
The concentric circles represent the ripples created by every action, every encounter, and every choice. Small causes produce consequences far beyond what we can immediately perceive.
The serpents evoke the ancient Ouroboros, one of humanity's oldest symbols of eternal return, transformation, renewal, and cyclical existence.
Together, these elements form a meditation on interconnectedness, awakening, and the possibility that reality may be far deeper than it first appears.
Ripple Effect
Every thought, action, and decision creates consequences that extend beyond the immediate moment. Like waves spreading across water, our choices continue outward in ways we rarely see.
Interference Pattern
Reality emerges through interaction. The overlapping circles symbolize the meeting of forces, ideas, people, experiences, and perspectives that continuously shape one another.
Ouroboros
The serpent consuming its own tail symbolizes eternity, renewal, and transformation. It reminds us that endings become beginnings and that growth often emerges through cycles of death and rebirth.
Awakening
At its deepest level, this piece is about rebellion. It is a call that will echo across the time and space continuum, awakening all of us rebels who dare to challenge this version of reality and the "narrative" imposed on us.
My story and PKD concepts
For the last few years of his life, Philip K. Dick tried to decipher an experience that occurred in 1974.
At the time, I had recently undergone dental surgery, and once the anesthesia wore off, the pain became unbearable. He called a nearby pharmacy and ordered pain medication.
A short while later, a young woman from the pharmacy arrived at his door.
When he opened it, he noticed a small gold fish pendant hanging around her neck, flickering in the sunlight.
At that exact moment, Dick experienced Something extraordinary.
A pink beam of light struck his forehead and, as he would later describe it, began "downloading" information into his mind.
He suddenly found himself seeing through time. He remembered another life as a Roman rebel. He came to experience reality itself as an illusion—a condition he would later describe as the "Black Iron Prison," a construct that conceals true reality from humanity.
Over the following months, he continued receiving visions, insights, and revelations from what he eventually called VALIS—short for Vast Active Living Intelligence System.
The Ripple Effect Pendant-Most retellings of this story mention that the fish was an ancient Christian symbol.
But the symbol's historical significance adds an intriguing layer to Dick's experience.
The fish was used as a secret sign among early Christians. The Greek word Ichthys served as an acronym for:
"Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior."
During the early centuries of Christianity, believers faced persecution under the Roman Empire, and symbols such as the fish became a discreet means of identifying one another.
In Dick's interpretation, the fish pendant triggered a profound state of anamnesis—a process of "un-forgetting."
He became convinced that history had effectively frozen in 70 CE, following the destruction of Jerusalem, and that modern civilization was merely a sophisticated illusion concealing the continued rule of the Roman Empire.
Over the next several months, VALIS continued communicating with him, revealing what he believed to be the hidden structure of reality.
According to Dick, one of these experiences even saved his infant son's life. He suddenly became convinced that Something was seriously wrong and rushed the child to the hospital, where doctors discovered a potentially life-threatening condition.
For the remainder of his life, Dick obsessively documented these experiences in an attempt to understand what had happened to him.
Portions of these writings were published as The Exegesis in his novel VALIS.
In them, he attempts to decode his 1974 experiences through Gnostic cosmology, the Tao Te Ching, early Christian mysticism, and the Nag Hammadi texts.
Over time, Dick developed an elaborate framework to explain what had happened to him.
Some of its central ideas included:
Orthogonal Time — Dick theorized that time does not move solely in a linear direction. He proposed the existence of a second, vertical axis of time, in which the first century CE and the twentieth century coexist simultaneously. Through this framework, he believed he could perceive another version of himself living as a Roman rebel.
The Black Iron Prison and the Palm Tree Garden — He viewed the material world as a vast holographic prison created by an irrational cosmic architect, often identified with the Gnostic Demiurge. In contrast, the Palm Tree Garden represented glimpses of the authentic divine reality breaking through the illusion.
Anamnesis — Drawing from Plato, Dick adopted the concept of anamnesis, or "un-forgetting." He believed humanity suffers from a form of cosmic amnesia, having forgotten its true origins. The vision triggered by the fish pendant was not a revelation of Something new, but the sudden recovery of Something ancient.
The Savior as Information — Rather than viewing the divine as a physical figure, Dick often speculated that Christ, or the Logos itself, was a form of living information—an intelligence capable of entering reality and subtly reprogramming the Black Iron Prison from within.
Now, I can go on with endless explanations of these concepts and philosophies, but I want to share my own experience because that is where it gets weird.
It started years ago, when I stumbled upon the Gospel of Thomas, discovered in 1945 at Nag Hammadi, Egypt.
The writing depicts a Gnostic concept that holds that physical reality is an illusion or a "corpse". It claims the material world is inherently dead, transient, and unworthy of attachment. Salvation comes from waking up to this fact, looking past everyday sensory deception, and realizing the divine light already within you.
Now it was around that time that I read "VALIS" -the novel, and though it was written as if the author had schizophrenia, in a way it actually made sense. You see, for years I had this ongoing feeling that this reality is slightly fake, Something was off,
What if, actually, the hidden nature of reality can be observed by symbols, occurrences, or synchronicities that simply act as a trigger that wakes us up?
That, by the way, is why I use all these symbols and turn them into wearable jewelry.
Perhaps PKD was right, and many of us spread these ideas in order to wake the masses.
So this is where it gets interesting. Around that time, after reading Valis, I went to a store in Tel Aviv not far from a pedestrian street.
On that specific day, there were many merchants with stands. One of them was selling wind chimes.
I don't remember how and why, but I've found myself having a conversation with him about the nature of reality, the way we experience time, and along the way, a few concepts from VALIS.
The conversation ended when a customer approached. As the merchant moved to the left, I was about to leave when Something caught my attention. On the wall behind the stand, there was a graffiti that said one thing -" VALIS".
I smiled and thought to myself, well, this cosmos definitely has a sense of humor…
Now, the concept that this reality is fake is ancient.
From Buddhism with the concept of Maya, the Nag Hammadi scriptures, to the Greek Stoic philosophy of the LOGOS, the ancient Jewish philosophy of "Alma De'Shikra"-the world of lies in Aramaic.
PKD believed this simulation was a prison constructed by 'An Empire' that rebranded itself to humanity under various names.
He believed that some of us are rebels who can be awakened with various triggers, such as symbols.
The second "encounter" for me was the Rebel's Ring.
I wasn't aware of PKD's concept of the "Palm Tree Garden," a visionary state representing paradise and divine reality that he believed overlaid our mundane world, which was created a few years ago-The "Rebel's Ring"-you see, the palm date was the ancient symbol of Judea, and the dates were one of the main imports across the Roman empire.
I've used this symbol- and on the other side of the ring, I've added the Hebrew words-" Ben Hurin_-a free man, and on top of the ring, I've added a replica of an ancient coin that was minted by the Jewish rebels, that says "shnat shatyim" -second year of the revolt, three years before the destruction of the temple.
Over the years, I've had many synchronicities as though Something keeps telling me that this reality is an illusion.
A few weeks ago, I started working on a new piece, once again, after looking at the original footage.
of PKD talking about Valis in Metz, France, in 1977.
This piece became "The Ripple Effect Pendant".
A few days after the pendant was completed, I attended a funeral. After the ceremony, I found myself staring at one of the tombstones. The marble was worn by decades of wind and weather, and dust had gathered in its cracks.
For a brief moment, an odd thought entered my mind:
"This isn't real."
Then another thought followed:
"Remember this moment."
I stood there quietly for a few seconds before walking back toward my car.
Suddenly, someone tapped me on the shoulder.
It was my brother.
He pointed ahead.
"Look."
Standing above the surrounding graves was a large tombstone.
Carved across its face was a single word.
VALIS.
The empire never ended.
