Double-Headed Serpent

Submitted by: Suzy Baiz
Description:
Snakes were sacred the Aztec because they symbolized their feathered serpent god, Quetzacoatl, which was the most important of tall the Aztec deities. It has also been theorized that the snake's ability to shed its skin each year may have represented renewal and transformation. The snake also symbolizes power and strength and because of its ability to move freely between water, earth and trees, it was seen as an intermediary between the different layers of the universe - the Underworld, the earth and the sky.
